Permanent Committee - Karen Saker
I am the director of the Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly and have worked with older adults in that role and also as a volunteer for more than 30 years. I firmly believe the statement that "we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing". To that end, I continually try to think up new games and projects to challenge the minds of the elderly people with whom I have contact. It has been my privilege to have taught games leadership, clowning and puppetry to 4-H youth on local, regional and state levels and am co-author of the Ohio 4-H clowning project starter guide.
I have attended BLW for 27 years, been a committee member for 25 of those years and currently serve as a member of the permanent committee. Classes I have taught at BLW include clowning, puppetry, crafts of many kinds, basket weaving, off-loom weaving and Activities for Senior Citizens.
My church is an important part of my life. I currently serve as choir director and co-president of the Women's Service Circle as well as leading our prayer shawl ministry.
It gives me great joy to be a part of BLW and to share my ideas and knowledge with others. It is so rewarding to see them take their new skills and share them with others when they return to their homes.
