2011 - Steve Arnold

I'm a "reformed" electrical engineer.  I attended THE Ohio State University (before they had the faceguards on the football helmets).  I spent 10 years, 2 months and 8 days in the US Navy,  (but who was counting), and am a combat veteran of Viet Nam, having served on two BGB's (Big Gray Boats) doing search and rescue and a 6 month stint temporarily assigned to a River Boat Squadron on the Bassac River.

I currently reside in rural Bowling Green, Ohio where I spend as much time as possible working with teens in 4-H, United Methodist Youth, High School Leadership, HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program) and other youth-oriented programs.  I am a certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor - Rifle and Pistol, and am an avid Scuba Diver.  I dive to avoid meaningless conversation and to relieve stress.  Both my wife, Donna and my daughter, Megan teach, and are alum of the Buckeye Leadership Workshop, and, of course, THE Ohio State University.

Kids are my passion.  I have a real job so I can spend time with "my" kids - about 1500 of them in Wood County. I volunteer around 1000 hours per year in youth development activities throughout Ohio.

I have been involved in Experiential Education for nearly 20 years, and have helped teach the Basic Team Challenge session at BLW for the past 10 years.  I've attended formal classes through Project Adventure and at the Adventure Education Center in Delaware, Ohio. I do many Team Challenge sessions each year, and have worked with such groups as Ciba-Geigy, The Toledo Ability Center, Recreation Unlimited Summer Staff, the Ann Grady Center, Pfizer and others.  My favorite place to lead challenge activities is at 4-H Camp Palmer in Fayette, Ohio.

2010 will be my 14th year at Buckeye and my 11th year on the Committee.
